Healthy Living Centre

Wootton Vale Healthy Living Centre opened its doors to patients in November 2006.  To date we have registered almost 3,000 local residents.

Wootton Vale Healthy Living Centre is a new NHS GP surgery with a difference.  Our unique multi-disciplinary team is led by Dr. Lindsay Mackenzie.  We offer integrated healthcare to the community by utilising a new skills mix which includes Physician Assistants and Healthcare Coordinators.

Wootton Vale Healthy Living Centre

Firstly, we would like to thank you for the many Christmas cards and tokens of appreciation that we received from patients.

Are you struggling with your New Year’s resolution to stop smoking or lose weight?

If so we can help you! See your Healthcare Coordinator for stop smoking support on prescription or join the counterweight weight management programme here at the surgery. We can also refer you to the exercise on prescription scheme run by local council leisure centres.

Sexual Health Clinic

Anne Marie (Women’s Healthcare Practitioner) runs a sexual health clinic every Tuesday evening with appointments from 5pm to 7pm. This service is part of the BEDFORDSHIRE SPHERE NETWORK and is not restricted to registered      patients, but available to anyone. The clinic offers advice on contraception,      diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and screening, coil and implant fitting.

Patient Respiratory Education Sessions

These are starting at Wootton Vale in the Spring. Rene Frasher (Physician Assistant) will be running a series of workshops for patients with asthma or COPD. These workshops will aim to promote awareness and self management of their condition. Dates to be confirmed and will be advertised in the surgery.

Pilates

The Pilate’s courses at Wootton Vale are very successful. Just as a reminder they run every Monday from 10-11am and 11.15am-12.15pm. These classes run in six week blocks for £33 (£5.50 per class) which is payable in advance. The aim is to teach the basic principles and exercises so that you can continue as a home       programme.  The groups are aimed at those who have health problems which   prevent them from taking up exercise regimes. It is particularly beneficial for those with musculoskeletal problems and arthritis.  As it is under medical supervision, by the practice, this service can be offered to registered patients only.  To book your place, please contact your healthcare coordinator.

Suggestions box

Can we draw your attention to the suggestion box just inside the entrance door in reception?  We value your help with ideas on how we can improve our service to you. Recent topics have been:- requesting designated disabled parking spaces, and  signs to keep the entrance ramp clear which you will see, on your next visit, have now been acted upon,

Practice Area

The practice list is now approaching 3000 patients which is quite a phenomenal rate of growth given that we have only been open for 3 years.  Please note that our practice area extends from Brogborough to  Kempston.

Dates for your diary:
