Wootton Schools

Bedfordshire operates a three tier Schooling system in the County.
Wootton has an
Upper School and Lower School in the village. Children of middle school years go either to Holywell School in Cranfield or Marston Vale School in Stewartby.

There are also two Playgroups in the Village - St Mary's Playgroup, that uses the Church Hall off St Mary's Road, and the BizzyBees, that uses the Memorial Hall.

The following articles about the schools were published in the February 2010 edition of Wootton News

 WOOTTON LOWER SCHOOL

The Autumn Term is traditionally  the longest one but often the most fun too.   Visits were made to Warwick Castle, Priory Park for “Pirate Sailing School” and walks round the village itself.  We all attended St. Mary’s Church for a traditional Harvest Service, with the children bringing produce which was made into food parcels and distributed by the Church congregation to local residents.

A new tradition is now being established.  Senior citizens were once again invited to enjoy a Harvest Tea with the children providing a range of entertainment.  It was a wonderful occasion.

In October a willow “classroom” was planted in the school field and will provide a permanent and educationally practical memorial for Mrs Shirley Cornish, our school secretary who passed away in 2008.  I am sure she would approve!

The term ended with all the seasonal fun activities – Christmas productions (at which a fantastic £350 was raised in a series of silver collections for Keech      Hospice for sick children), parties, discos, PTFA Fayre and a visit from the bearded man in red – it is never too icy or snowy for him!

At the time of writing, we are in the grip of ice and snow.  There may be some readers who remember the big freeze of 1962/63 – now that WAS cold with schools closed for weeks!!!  We are keeping an eye on the weather forecast.

As we stand on the threshold of 2010, on behalf of everyone at our school, we wish you a happy and peaceful New Year.

Wootton Upper School and Arts College is one of the top performing 13-18 Maintained Schools in Bedfordshire with a reputation for high standards,in both the curriculum and the breadth of the extra- curricular opportunities available to all our students, as evidenced in the recent Ofsted Report (a very good school with some outstanding features) on the school.  The school has been a Performing Arts Specialist College since 2002.

Wootton Lower School caters for children aged 5 to 9, has ten classes, a computer suite, hall and a large playing field. Their aim is to make learning and education an enjoyable and exciting experience with the children encouraged to become independent learners.  The school was graded as good by Ofsted in 2008. The children are delightful and work hard, transferring successfully to the local Middle Schools.  The school is well supported by parents and an active PTA.
